Welcome to the Berg Studios NYC Workshop.

Upcoming NYC Workshop March 2010!

Here is the schedule for the class:

Day 1

Introduction and Q.& A ...please prepare any questions you may have regarding the craft. Any broad or specific questions about rehearsal or auditions that are still looming. (Ex: before I went to YALE DRAMA I did not know the exact combination of reality vs. fantasy to be used in preparation for personalizing a scene.) Please think about questions and prepare them before hand.

Bootcamp 1: Sense Stress in the script...analysis of text. Using a monologue from the bootcamp packet we will look at how to find the subtext and how to utilize the language in active pursuit of the objective.

Scene Study: Please prepare a scene that is off book and up on its feet for the first class. Scenes should be no longer than 4 minutes max. Please pick contemporary material and please stay away from any heightened or style in the material..(a la no Durang or Silver or even Williams) Please pick simple objective scenes which are not complicated with story line or rhetoric. Straight forward stuff will suit the workshop best as the amount of time is limited.

Day 2

Bootcamp 2:

How to find CHARACTER in the given text. How to deal with the ENVIRONMENT in the text.

  • Prepare a 2 minute monologue max and present it...(we will do 3 people.)
  • Continue WORK on scene study bringing back the same scenes.

Day 3

Bootcamp 3: Objectives and Actions. How to make the objectives physical and active rather than intellectual.

  • We will do the next round of 3 people presenting monologues.
  • Continue doing scene work.

Day 4

  • Lecture on the Do's and Dont's of on-camera auditions.
  • On-Camera audition technique.
  • Please bring in a 2 minute audition piece for on camera performance. Again find something you would be cast in.
  • Last 3 people doing monologues.
  • Final rehearsal of the scenes (time permitting).
